| Obverse description | Central field depicts the Virgin Mary seated, draped and veiled, nursing the infant Christ who is shown with a nimbus; the figures are rendered in a devotional Gothic-influenced style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Italian coinage. The date 1614 appears in the lower exergue beneath the central device. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, reading MO NO VA AGVS SPICO PAL, abbreviating Moneta Nova Augusta Spinola Palatinus, and referencing the issuing authority Agostino Spinola. The coin's border is defined by a fine inner toothed rim. |
