Sigismund von Schrattenbach ruled Salzburg from 1753 until his death in 1771, and his tenure coincided directly with the years Leopold Mozart was employed at the court as vice-Kapellmeister. It was Schrattenbach who funded and supported the young Wolfgang's early Italian tours, a patronage arrangement that made Salzburg's archiepiscopal mint an indirect financier of some of the most consequential musical travel of the 18th century.
The Zöttl reference numbers spanning three varieties suggest minor die differences across the production run — collectors working the Salzburg series specifically track these distinctions.
