The arms display the traditional heraldic charges of the House of Welf, including rampant lions, a walking horse, and other dynastic quarterings rendered in fine relief. The circumferential Latin legend reads LVD. RVD. D. G. DVX. BR. ET LVN., identifying the issuer as Louis Rudolph, by the grace of God Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg. The overall design reflects the baroque heraldic style prevalent in early eighteenth-century German coinage. |

The figure stands on a ground line, barefoot and clad in a garment of leaves or foliage about the waist, rendered in the baroque engraving style characteristic of early eighteenth-century German ducats. The arc legend VIRTVS FORTIS VERA NON FERA curves along the upper periphery, translating as 'True strong virtue, not ferocity.'
