| Descrizione del dritto | Draped and armored bust of Prince Josef Wenzel I in right profile, rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner, wearing a flowing periwig with elaborate curls cascading over the shoulder. The truncation displays ornate drapery and decorative armor with scroll-work detail. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, interrupted at the base of the bust, reading IOS·WENC·D·G·S·R·I·PR·& GUB·DOM·DE LIECHTENSTEIN, expanding to Ioseph Wenzel Dei Gratia Sacri Romani Imperii Princeps & Gubernator Domus De Liechtenstein. The finely engraved portrait displays strong baroque artistic influence consistent with mid-18th century German die-cutting tradition. |

Josef Wenzel I served as a field marshal in the Habsburg army and spent the bulk of his life on campaign or at the imperial court in Vienna — rarely, if ever, setting foot in Liechtenstein itself. The principality's coinage was a prerogative exercised largely for prestige rather than commercial necessity, the tiny territory having no mint of its own and farming production out to contracted facilities.
The 1758 ducat was struck during the Seven Years' War, in which Josef Wenzel commanded Austrian artillery with considerable distinction.
