Ferdinand I secured his position as King of Bohemia and Hungary in the late 1520s, which dramatically expanded the flow of precious metals available to Habsburg mints. Vienna's output in the 1540s reflects this — ducats from this decade circulated across Central Europe as trade currency, accepted far beyond Habsburg territory into Ottoman-controlled regions where Ferdinand was simultaneously fighting and negotiating for control of Hungary.
Fr#36 is among the earlier Ferdinand ducat types. The Vienna mint at this period operated under strict imperial weight standards enforced since Maximilian I, which accounts for the consistency collectors encounter across surviving examples.
