1 Ducat - Ferdinand I Klagenfurt

Ferdinand I had held Carinthia since 1521, inheriting it as part of the Habsburg partition that divided Maximilian I's territories among his grandsons. The Klagenfurt mint operated sporadically through the mid-sixteenth century, and ducats bearing its mintmark are substantially rarer than those struck at the major Austrian facilities in Hall or Vienna. By 1555 — the same year the Peace of Augsburg was signed, temporarily settling the religious wars tearing through Ferdinand's territories — output at Klagenfurt was already declining toward the mint's eventual closure.
