Charles XI's reign coincided with the Great Reduktion — his systematic reclamation of crown lands from the nobility — which rebuilt Swedish state finances after the catastrophic losses of the Scanian War. The Stockholm Mint's ducat production across this period reflects that fiscal recovery directly; output was erratic in the early years and stabilized only as treasury reserves consolidated through the 1680s.
The .972 fineness held throughout the type's run, consistent with Sweden's adherence to the longstanding ducat standard shared across northern European trade networks. Dies were periodically reworked, generating the type distinctions catalogued as XX through XXII.
