Beschrijving keerzijde The crowned arms of the Palatinate, displaying a rampant lion on a shielded escutcheon, mounted on an ornamental pedestal and flanked by symmetrical foliate and floral branches. The shield is surmounted by an electoral bonnet, and the composition is framed by the milled border of the coin, with a mintmaster's mark visible at the base of the pedestal. The heraldic design is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail consistent with mid-18th-century German medallic art.

Aanvullende informatie

Charles Theodore inherited the Palatinate electorate in 1743 at age seventeen following the extinction of the Sulzbach line, making him one of the youngest ruling princes in the Empire at the time. His early ducats, including this 1746 issue, predate the period when his court at Mannheim became a genuine cultural and intellectual center — the famous Mannheim orchestra was still in its formative years, and the electoral finances remained heavily burdened by debts inherited from his predecessor.

The Palatinate ducat series of this period is catalogued across Famler's Slg. Memme with notable die variation between years. The .986 fine gold standard was maintained rigorously through the Mannheim mint under strict imperial weight conventions.
