| 背面描述 | The reverse of this square copper coin weight or klippe presents a broad, flat, unadorned field with no inscriptions or devices. A faint circular outline in the center of the field corresponds to the pressure relief from the obverse strike. The plain surface bears natural surface marks consistent with use as a coin weight. The square form with rounded corners is characteristic of Utrecht klippe-style issues of this period. |

The Batavian Republic, installed by French Revolutionary forces in 1795 after ousting the old Dutch Republic, inherited a monetary system fragmented across seven formerly sovereign provinces — each with its own mint and traditions. Utrecht continued striking under its own provincial identity even within the new republican framework. This copper square ducat is a trial or pattern-adjacent piece; the gold ducat it mimics was a deeply entrenched trade coin, and copper versions served administrative or presentation purposes rather than ordinary commerce.
