| 表面の説明 | Overstruck upon the bust of Western Satrap king Nahapana, the underlying host coin's portrait remaining partially visible beneath the countermark. Superimposed upon the field are the characteristic Satavahana symbols: a three-arched hill (giri) with crescent above, a water (river) symbol below, and the Andhra Satavahana dynastic symbol to the upper left. The Brahmi legend encircles the design in the surrounding field, identifying the issuing authority. The striking is typical of hammered Indian coinage of the period, with irregular flan edges and moderately well-centred devices. |

Nahapana was a Kshaharata Satrap whose western Indian territories were systematically reconquered by Gautamiputra Satakarni around 124 CE — a campaign so thorough that ancient sources claim he overstruck vast quantities of Nahapana's silver coins rather than melting them, reclaiming both the metal and the symbolic territory simultaneously. This piece is a direct artifact of that deliberate act of political erasure. The underlying Nahapana type frequently remains partially visible beneath the new dies, making these overstrikes among the most legible evidence of conquest in the entire ancient Indian numismatic record.
