| Obverse description | Overstruck upon the bust of Western Satrap king Nahapana, the underlying host coin's portrait remaining partially visible beneath the countermark. Superimposed upon the field are the characteristic Satavahana symbols: a three-arched hill (giri) with crescent above, a water (river) symbol below, and the Andhra Satavahana dynastic symbol to the upper left. The Brahmi legend encircles the design in the surrounding field, identifying the issuing authority. The striking is typical of hammered Indian coinage of the period, with irregular flan edges and moderately well-centred devices. |
