Beschrijving keerzijde Uniface; the reverse is entirely blank, presenting a plain, slightly convex and rough silver surface with no design, inscription, or incuse punch. This uniface technique is characteristic of the earliest issues of Populonia, reflecting archaic Etruscan minting practice prior to the adoption of two-sided coin types.

Aanvullende informatie

Populonia, an Etruscan city on the Tyrrhenian coast of northern Italy, was the only Etruscan settlement known to have minted its own coinage — most Etruscan communities relied on traded or imitated Greek issues. This hare series belongs to the earliest phase of Populonian silver, a period when the city's control of iron ore deposits from the island of Elba was generating enough commercial activity to warrant a local monetary issue. The hare as a type appears across multiple Etruscan cultural objects and likely carried symbolic rather than purely decorative weight within that tradition.
