The Tokhara Yabghus — Turkic governors of Tokharistan operating nominally under Western Turkic suzerainty — produced imitative coinage of Sasanian prototypes as a practical currency solution in a region where Khusro II's drachms already circulated with established trust. This piece copies a type struck by one of the most prolific Sasanian mints, yet the issuing authority deliberately omitted or corrupted the regnal name, producing what scholars catalog as "anonymous" not from carelessness but likely from political calculation or simple die-cutter unfamiliarity with Pahlavi script.
Göbl's classification of these issues remains the primary framework, though attribution within the series is complicated by significant die variation and overlapping chronologies with related Alchon and Nezak issues from the same region.
