Star and crescent symbols flank the altar flames in the upper field, elements inherited from the Hormizd IV prototype of Balkh. The Bactrian script word фopo (meaning 'tribute' or designating a fiscal function) appears as a countermark in the reverse margin. The overall composition preserves the ceremonial and religious iconography of the Sasanian fire-worship tradition, reappropriated for the political purposes of the Tokhara Yabghu rulers. |
