The Syr Darya Oghuz occupied a complicated political position in the early ninth century — nominally within the Abbasid orbit but operating through local intermediaries who stamped their own authority onto Samanid-influenced silver. Abdallah ibn Tahir governed Khurasan from 828 to 845 as a Tahirid governor under the caliphate, and his name appearing on this issue reflects the layered vassal acknowledgments common to trans-Oxus frontier coinage rather than any direct Tahirid mint operation. Namij Jabuya was a local Oghuz chieftain title, not a personal name in the conventional sense.
