Beschrijving voorzijde The coat of arms of Namibia occupies the central field, depicting a heraldic shield supported on either side by rearing oryx antelopes standing on a grassy base; a smaller oryx stands as crest atop the shield. A scroll beneath the shield bears the Latin motto VIRIBUS UNITIS. Two olive branches flank the composition in the lower field. The legend NAMIBIA arcs along the upper rim within a beaded border, with the date 1990 positioned in the lower field.

Beschrijving keerzijde A full-length figure of a San Bushman archer rendered in high relief dominates the central field, depicted standing and drawing a longbow with arrow aimed to the right, shown with musculature in naturalistic detail. The numeral 1 appears prominently to the left of the figure, and the word DOLLAR is inscribed vertically along the right side. The bilingual trial strike legends PROBE to the upper left and ESSAI to the upper right flank the design within a beaded border. A small mintmaster's mark S appears at the base.

Aanvullende informatie

Namibia gained independence from South African administration on 21 March 1990, and the Bank of Namibia was established almost simultaneously to prepare the country's own currency infrastructure. Trial strikes like this one were produced as the new institution worked through design and technical specifications before committing to full production runs — the country ultimately launched the Namibia Dollar only in 1993, replacing the South African Rand that had circulated throughout the transitional period.
