Beschrijving voorzijde A detailed architectural rendering of the Cathédrale St-Michel Archange occupies the central field, depicted in a slightly elevated perspective with its distinctive modernist façade, bell tower at left, and clouds in the background. A beaded inner border frames the design. The curved legend along the upper periphery reads HOMMAGE AUX BATISSEURS, AUX PAROISSIENS ET AUX AMIS. Below the cathedral, a four-line inscription identifies the institution as CATHEDRALE / ST-MICHEL ARCHANGE / DIOCÈSE / DE ROUYN-NORANDA, with the commemorative dates 1926~1976~1980 inscribed in the lower exergue.

Aanvullende informatie

Rouyn-Noranda itself didn't exist until the 1920s copper and gold mining boom drew workers north into the Abitibi region of Quebec — one of the last major mineral rushes in Canadian history. The diocese was carved out of existing ecclesiastical territory in 1953 specifically to serve that mining population, making it among the younger Catholic dioceses in the country. Parish and diocesan souvenir dollars of this type were commonly issued in Quebec during the late 1970s and early 1980s as fundraising instruments, typically tied to restoration campaigns or anniversary observances.
