| Obverse description | Intaglio-printed note in black with red and green underprint elements; an oval vignette at left bears a bust portrait of Martha Washington in three-quarter view, set within an ornate lathe-work border. The centre carries a large dark medallion inscribed ONE SILVER DOLLAR, flanked to the right by a bold numeral 1 within an elaborate guilloche panel. Script and copperplate lettering reading 'Payable to bearer on demand' and 'Washington D.C.' appear in the lower centre, with the series date 1886 at lower right and Treasury and Register signatures across the bottom. |

| Reverse description | Printed entirely in green intaglio, the reverse is dominated by a central cartouche bearing the legends UNITED STATES and SILVER CERTIFICATE, enclosing an inner oval with the receivability clause. Two large stylised ONE counters flanked by ornamental floral guilloche panels occupy the left and right fields, while elaborate rosette and scroll lathe-work fills the corners and borders. The imprint BUREAU OF ENGRAVING AND PRINTING, WASHINGTON, D.C. runs along the lower margin. |
