This piece belongs to the wave of wildlife-themed legal tender issues commissioned through the Pobjoy Mint and similar facilities during the late 2000s, where small Pacific island nations — Fiji among the most prolific — lent their issuing authority to coin programs with no meaningful connection to local fauna or history. The Siberian tiger has no relation to Fiji whatsoever. These arrangements were commercially driven, targeting collector markets in Europe and North America rather than circulating domestically.
