A timber jetty extends over calm waters in the foreground, with figures visible on the pier and a vessel passing in the middle ground. Dense tropical tree coverage is rendered along the upper horizon, evoking the natural character of the locale. The inscription 'PUNGGOL POINT & CONEY ISLAND' arcs along the upper periphery, while the legend 'Rustic Coast' and the denomination '$1' appear in stylized lettering within the lower field. Issued as part of Singapore's ongoing commemorative dollar program marking urban redevelopment projects, this piece records two reclaimed land areas on the northeastern coast — Punggol Point and Coney Island — before large-scale development transformed them. Coney Island, known locally as Pulau Serangoon, was privately owned by the Haw Par Brothers until the 1970s and long served as a recreational retreat before the Singapore government acquired it.
The Punggol district itself was a fishing village well into the late twentieth century, earmarked for comprehensive new town development under the 1996 Punggol 21 masterplan.
