Beschrijving voorzijde	The obverse is printed in black on white paper, with the denomination ONE DOLLAR / UNE PIASTRE appearing vertically in ornate panels at left and right margins. A central vignette depicts a classical allegorical female figure standing between two columns, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. The heading reads MONTREAL and LOWER CANADA across the top, with UNION BANK in large letterpress text across the centre, below which the bilingual promise to pay is inscribed in both English and French.

Beschrijving keerzijde	The reverse is executed entirely in fine lathe-work guilloche, with a symmetrical arrangement of nine large circular rosette medallions set in three rows of three, interspersed with small vignettes including a stag's head and other rural motifs. The words STEEL PLATE are inscribed in open letterpress characters across the upper and lower central areas of the design, referencing the engraving method used. The overall impression is a densely patterned, pale intaglio composition with no colour underprint.
