The issuing bank's name and charter location appear in bold blackletter script across the upper portion of the note, flanked by ornate guilloche borders and repeating "ONE" / "NATIONAL CURRENCY" lettering along the margins. A large decorative numeral "1" in an elaborate lathe-work frame occupies the right side, with an orange-red circular registry stamp and red serial number overprinted on the face. |

An oval to the left contains the seal of the U.S. state in which the issuing bank is chartered, while an oval to the right bears an American Eagle; both ovals are surrounded by fine lathe-work guilloche. Extensive legal-tender and anti-counterfeiting text in letterpress fills the upper and lower registers, with "ONE" and "LANDING OF THE PILGRIMS" inscribed in bold type. |
