| Beschrijving voorzijde | Left-facing draped bust of Liberty in high relief, her hair flowing in elaborate curls and gathered at the nape, adorned with a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and a wreath of wheat and oak leaves. The legend E · PLURIBUS · UNUM arcs along the upper periphery, flanked on both sides by a ring of thirteen eight-pointed stars within a beaded border. The date appears in the lower exergue. The design faithfully reproduces George T. Morgan's classic 1878 effigy, rendered here with exceptional sharpness on .999 fine silver. |

The original Morgan Dollar was discontinued in 1921, the same year it was briefly revived after a five-year absence mandated by the Pittman Act of 1918, which authorized the melting of up to 350 million silver dollars to sell bullion to Britain during wartime currency pressures. The centennial reissue, authorized under the United States Innovation Dollar Act framework and enabled by the America's Beautiful Coins legislation extensions, marked the first time the design returned on a .999 fine planchet — the originals were struck in .900 silver.
Five mint facilities struck the 2021 centennial issue, including Carson City and New Orleans using privy marks — facilities that had been closed for decades.
