| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and draped, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, occupying the central field of the round obverse. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed to the left, NIUE to the upper centre, and ONE DOLLAR to the right, all in raised Latin lettering. The date 2015 appears in the lower exergue beneath the portrait. The initials IRB, denoting the engraver Ian Rank-Broadley, are visible below the truncation of the bust. | Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse bears a colour-printed reproduction of the iconic Byzantine-style image of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, one of the most venerated Marian icons in the Catholic tradition, rendered in rich polychrome enamel-like hues including deep greens, golds, and ochres against a dark background. The Virgin Mary is depicted in a frontal or three-quarter pose, her robe adorned in ornate gold and green tones, consistent with the celebrated Jasna Góra iconographic tradition. This piece forms the ninth issue in a series of twenty-four coins dedicated to famous Madonnas of the world. The rectangular format of the planchet frames the devotional image in a manner evoking a sacred panel painting or reliquary. |
