| Reverse description | A large flying fish (Exocoetus volitans), the national symbol of Barbados, is depicted in dynamic profile occupying the majority of the central field, its elongated pectoral fins fully extended as it glides above stylised ocean waves rendered in low relief. Seabirds in flight are indicated in the upper field above the fish, adding depth to the maritime composition. The denomination ONE DOLLAR is inscribed in bold raised letters along the lower arc of the coin, separated from the design by the beaded inner border. The engraver's initials PN appear discreetly within the field. The overall design, executed by Philip Nathan, reflects the naturalistic style characteristic of Franklin Mint issues of the period. |
