Obverse description Full-length effigy of King Kamehameha I depicted in the style of the famous Honolulu statue, standing facing with right arm raised in a gesture of greeting and left hand holding a long spear, draped in a traditional feathered cloak and wearing a crested helmet. The figure stands upon a stepped pedestal bearing the date 1996 within a rectangular cartouche. To the left of the effigy, a crowned royal device accompanies the vertical legend KING / KAMEHAMEHA arranged upward; to the right, the vertical legends SOVEREIGN and HAWAII flank the field. The deeply mirrored proof fields contrast sharply with the finely frosted devices, and the entire design is bordered by a continuous beaded inner rim.
