The obverse displays the full national coat of arms of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in high relief at the centre of the field. The shield, bearing crossed Christopher Columbus ships, is supported on either side by a scarlet ibis and a cocrico, the national birds, each rendered with fine feather detail. Above the shield rises a helm surmounted by a palm tree, while a scroll below carries the national motto. The legend REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, with the date 1982 positioned prominently at the base of the field. The mint mark FM for the Franklin Mint appears to the left of the date. |
