| Reverse description | The reverse features the entwined royal cipher E&P, representing Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, rendered in large decorative lettering at the centre of the field and surrounded by an elaborate wreath of lilies and foliage in high relief. The circular legend 1947 · GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY · 1997 arcs around the upper and lateral periphery, with the denomination $1 inscribed in the lower field. Sierra Leone issued a wave of commemorative dollars in the late 1990s targeting the thematic collector market — royal anniversaries, wildlife, sporting events — most produced by outside minting houses with little connection to the issuing country. This piece marks the 1997 golden wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, an event that generated commemorative issues from dozens of Commonwealth and associated territories simultaneously.
KM#53 circulated among collector sets, not Sierra Leonean commerce.
