Reverse description A detailed frontal view of the Centre Block of the Canadian Parliament Buildings in Ottawa dominates the field, engraved by Emanuel Otto Hahn, with the soaring Peace Tower rising prominently at the centre above the Gothic Revival facade. The Latin motto FIDE SVORVM REGNAT arches across the upper field, meaning 'He reigns by the faith of his people.' In the lower exergue, the inscriptions CANADA, 1939, and 1 DOLLAR are arranged in three lines. The composition commemorates the 1939 Royal Visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada, the first reigning monarch to visit the country. A beaded border frames the entire design.
