The scene depicts the resurrected Christ seated at the centre of a table laden with bread, fruit and a carafe, extending his hand in blessing, while two disciples at either side react with expressions of astonishment and a standing innkeeper looks on. Caravaggio's characteristic chiaroscuro treatment, with dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, is faithfully rendered in colour print on the gold-plated silver surface. |
