| Beschrijving keerzijde | Full-colour reproduction of Caravaggio's masterpiece 'Supper at Emmaus' (c. 1601, National Gallery, London), presented within an elaborate gilded ornamental frame occupying the entire square field of the coin. The scene depicts the resurrected Christ seated at the centre of a table laden with bread, fruit and a carafe, extending his hand in blessing, while two disciples at either side react with expressions of astonishment and a standing innkeeper looks on. Caravaggio's characteristic chiaroscuro treatment, with dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, is faithfully rendered in colour print on the gold-plated silver surface. |
