| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and draped, occupying the central field set within a circular aperture framed by an elaborate Gothic tracery pattern evoking the rose window of St. Vitus Cathedral. St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague was begun in 1344 under Charles IV and took nearly six centuries to complete — the western facade wasn't finished until 1929. Niue has issued a considerable run of fine silver pieces under licensing arrangements that allow it to produce collector coins bearing subjects entirely unrelated to the island itself, a legal quirk of its status as a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand.
