Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as a young woman, depicted at approximately 37 years of age, wearing a diadem and pearl drop earrings, rendered in high relief after the portrait by Arnold Machin. The legend surrounding the effigy reads bilingual in English and French, commemorating the Silver Jubilee of Her Majesty's reign. The dates 1952 and 1977 flank the central design, separated by raised dots within the legend.

Reverse description At center, a highly detailed rendering of the ornate Gothic Revival Throne of the Senate of Canada, set upon a stepped dais with a decorative arched stone wall in the background. The throne is depicted with intricate filigree work, a cushioned seat, and lion's paw feet, faithfully reproducing the historic ceremonial chair used in the Senate Chamber in Ottawa. The bilingual legend arcs around the upper portion of the field, reading 'THRONE OF THE SENATE' to the left and 'LE TRÔNE DU SÉNAT' to the right, with 'CANADA' prominently placed at the top. The denomination 'DOLLAR' appears in the lower exergue in bold capital lettering. A beaded border frames the entire design.
