| Opis awersu | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a diamond tiara and pearl necklace with drop earring, after the portrait by Robert Macneil (RDM). The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 1 DOLLAR, the issuer TUVALU, and the date 2010 are distributed around the lower field. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. |

Issued as part of a wave of Pacific island commemoratives produced under the Perth Mint's licensed program for Tuvalu, this coin references the Great Siege of Malta (1565), in which Ottoman forces under Suleiman the Magnificent besieged the Knights Hospitaller for over four months before withdrawing — one of the most consequential military failures of Ottoman westward expansion. The Knights' resistance almost certainly preserved Christian control of the western Mediterranean for the following century.
