| Additional information |
Issued as part of a wave of Pacific island commemoratives produced under the Perth Mint's licensed program for Tuvalu, this coin references the Great Siege of Malta (1565), in which Ottoman forces under Suleiman the Magnificent besieged the Knights Hospitaller for over four months before withdrawing — one of the most consequential military failures of Ottoman westward expansion. The Knights' resistance almost certainly preserved Christian control of the western Mediterranean for the following century.
