| Beschrijving keerzijde | Left-facing portrait bust of the German Romantic composer Robert Schumann, rendered in an engraved sketch style, occupying the left half of the field. Overlapping the portrait is a large treble clef in relief, which transitions into a background of musical staff lines bearing handwritten-style notation, evoking a manuscript score, filling the right half of the field. The legend ROBERT SCHUMANN and the composer's birth and death years 1810 – 1856 appear in italic script along the upper-right and lower-right periphery respectively. The Perth Mint's P mintmark and the engraver's initials RV are present in the lower field. |

Issued as part of the Perth Mint's ongoing commemorative dollar program, this piece marks the bicentenary of Schumann's birth in 1810. Schumann spent the final years of his life in a psychiatric institution in Endenich, near Bonn, committed in 1854 after a breakdown and an attempt to drown himself in the Rhine. He died there in 1856, never having recovered. The Perth Mint's interest in European cultural figures during this period reflected a broader push into the collector coin market, where themed silver issues were increasingly competing with German and Swiss mints for the same buyer base.
