| 裏面の説明 | Central device depicts Pegasus, the mythological winged horse of Greek antiquity, shown rearing in dynamic left-facing profile with large outstretched wings fully spread. The creature is rendered in high relief against a semicircular colorized background depicting a vivid sunset in graduated tones of deep red, orange, and iridescent blue-green. A dotted inner border frames the design, with the series title MYSTICAL CREATURES arcing along the upper legend, the subtitle THE WILD AND WINGED STEED inscribed in three lines at the lower left of the field, and the name PEGASUS prominently displayed along the lower legend, all separated by raised dot stops. |

The Pegasus dollar is part of Cook Islands' expansive licensed commemorative program, which by the late 2000s had become one of the most prolific in the world — the islands' monetary agreement with New Zealand allowed them to issue legal tender coins while bearing essentially no obligation to produce circulating currency, making them an attractive vehicle for the novelty collector market.
Silver-plated copper was the workhorse material of this boom, keeping production costs low enough for high-volume licensed themes.
