Part of a Polish-marketed commemorative series issued through Niue — a common vehicle for collector coins with no connection to the island itself — this piece references the ancient Baltic amber trade routes that linked the North Sea coast to the Mediterranean as early as the Bronze Age. Gdańsk (historically Danzig) served as the dominant export hub for Baltic amber, a commodity the Romans prized so heavily that Nero reportedly sent an expedition north specifically to secure supplies for gladiatorial games.
