To her right, a gilt rose with stem and leaves serves as the central decorative motif, symbolising the Princess's association with the English rose. The upper arc bears the legend THE ROYAL DYNASTIES surmounted by a crown device, while the inscriptions 50TH BIRTHDAY and DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES appear in the central field to the right of the portrait.
