Solomon Islands has issued commemorative coinage under its own authority since independence in 1978, but the vast majority of its collector-market silver output is contracted through external minting and distribution agents — the Central Bank functions largely as licensor rather than producer. Curling was introduced to the Winter Olympics in 1998 at Nagano as a full medal sport after decades as a demonstration event, a detail that gives this series its nominal hook.
