The Tyniec Abbey, founded by Benedictine monks on a limestone cliff above the Vistula near Kraków, is one of the oldest continuously operating monasteries in Poland — its origins traced to the mid-eleventh century, likely under Casimir I. The chalice commemorated here survived the abbey's repeated destructions, including Swedish raids during the Deluge of the 1650s and later Prussian and Russian suppressions.
