The Battle of the Scheldt, fought October–November 1944, was one of the most operationally demanding Allied campaigns in Northwest Europe — a grinding, waterlogged fight to clear the Scheldt Estuary and open the port of Antwerp to Allied supply ships. Canadian forces bore the overwhelming burden of it, suffering over 6,000 casualties in five weeks across flooded Dutch polders.
Niue issues commemoratives of this kind under licensing arrangements that have little to do with the island's own history. The connection is entirely commercial.
