The Battle of the Bulge — Germany's last major offensive on the Western Front, launched through the Ardennes in December 1944 — was a desperate gamble by Hitler to split Allied lines and recapture Antwerp. It failed at enormous cost to both sides, with American casualties alone exceeding 75,000.
