The Perth Mint's Chinese Lunar series has run continuously since 1996, making it one of the longest-unbroken bullion programs of its kind. The 2019 issue falls in the Year of the Pig, though the "Dragon Bar" format — struck as a rectangular ingot retaining legal tender status — reflects the Mint's ongoing strategy of differentiating its silver product line for Asian collector markets where bar formats have historically outsold round coins.
The .9999 fineness is notable. Most silver bullion, including the American Silver Eagle, is struck to .999; the additional refining step was introduced by Perth partly as a marketing differentiator and partly in response to demand from Chinese buyers for whom four nines carries specific cultural significance.
