Diamantinasaurus matildae was recovered from Winton Formation deposits in Queensland, first formally described in 2009 — one of the earliest titanosaur sauropods confirmed from Australian material. The species name nods to "Waltzing Matilda," a pointed piece of whimsy given that the type locality sits near the town where Banjo Paterson allegedly wrote the song.
This is the fourth in the RAM's ongoing Australian Dinosaurs series, which began in 2022 and draws exclusively on taxa described from domestic fossil sites.
