Reverse description The reverse presents a large silver proof outer ring with the date 1855 at the upper left, ONE DOLLAR along the left field, and 2005 at the lower right, all in raised lettering against a deeply mirrored field. Inset at centre is a smaller gold-plated coin reproducing the reverse of the 1855 Sydney Mint Half Sovereign, featuring the inscriptions SYDNEY MINT and AUSTRALIA within a wreath of native flora, surmounted by a royal crown, with HALF SOVEREIGN completing the legend around the lower periphery. The wreath is rendered in fine relief, characteristic of the original Sydney Mint coinage. The iridescent toning visible on the silver outer ring results from the proof striking process and surface treatment. The overall design commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Sydney Mint's first gold coinage.
