Part of the Perth Mint's "Figures of Note" series, this issue pairs Joseph Banks and Caroline Chisholm — an unusual pairing that cuts across two centuries of Australian history. Banks sailed with Cook on the Endeavour in 1770 and lobbied successfully for Botany Bay as a convict settlement site, while Chisholm spent the 1840s and 1850s campaigning to bring free settler women and families to the colonies, directly countering the social consequences of the convict system Banks helped establish.
