Don Bosco, the 19th-century Italian priest who founded the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1859, was canonized by Pius XI in 1934. Palau has issued an extensive series of small-format gold miniatures featuring Catholic saints, largely targeting the devotional collector market in Europe and Latin America where Salesian institutions maintain a strong presence.
