This is one piece in a 24-coin silver series issued by Niue commemorating Dante's Divine Comedy, released around the 700th anniversary of the poem's composition, traditionally dated to circa 1308–1320. Niue has become a prolific vehicle for themed collector series issued under New Zealand monetary authority, its nominal face value carrying no practical circulation intent.
