| 表面の説明 | The complete arms of the Republic of Sierra Leone are displayed centrally, featuring two lions rampant as supporters flanking a shield adorned with a torch between two wavy lines, with palm trees rising above. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto in the legend UNITY FREEDOM JUSTICE. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE runs along the upper periphery, and the date 2001 appears in the lower field. The design is framed by a dentilated border. |

Sierra Leone's early 2000s dollar series was a frankly commercial venture — coins produced for the collector and novelty market rather than domestic circulation. The Buffalo dollar falls squarely in that category, issued by the government as a licensing arrangement with foreign minting interests, a practice the country leaned on heavily during a period when the actual national currency, the leone, was grinding through post-civil-war instability.
KM#234 is well documented but sees little numismatic enthusiasm precisely because its origins are transparent.
